CONARY COMMUNITY ARTS

The village of Conary is 3 miles from
the village of Avoca, famous for amongst other things ,the
setting for the hit T.V. show 'Ballykissangel'.
Conary or 'Cunnery' as the locals call it, is steeped in
mining history
The Conary Community Hall was formerly the Kilmacoo National
School,which was built in 1933.
Seventy years later,Conary Community Arts was
formed(September 2003).Over the ensuing years Conary
Community Arts has gone from strength to strength. With the
support of Wicklow Arts Office and Wicklow Rural
Partnership, as well as the local Community, we have grown
into a vibrant Arts Group.
The first performance was 'St. Oscar' by Terry Eagleton, a
one-man show starring Seamus Moran, with proceeds going to
the Chernobyl Children's Fund. Since then we have forged
links with Art Groups from home and abroad.
Utilizing the Conary Community Hall, a venue containing
historic significance to the Community. It has also been the
venue for Play Station Marathons, Photographic Exhibitions,
the first ever Conary Summer Camp. And most recently the
Conary Foroige Youth Club, the Conary Young Film Makers
Course and the Conary Film Club.
We endeavour to create a hub of artistic expression to serve
the Community and foster an awareness and appreciation of
the arts.
